Driver Appreciation at Toyota in Louisville!

No Toyota Driver Appreciation event would be complete without a dunk tank.  As the week continued, Toyota participated in a little fun in the sun.  The everyone got the opportunity to relieve some stress while playing some games of corn hole.  Even better, our drivers were able to select managers and try dunking them in the manager dunk tank.  In the end, no manager left the tank dry.  It seemed as if we have some former major league baseball pitchers on the fleet.  After all the fun, there was a cook out to provide lunch for everyone.  The week turned out to be a huge success.  Thank you to our drivers for everything they do!

Al Skarya Retirement

After 32 years of exceptional and safe service with J.B. Hunt, Al Skarya is retiring. Al started his career with J.B. Hunt on November 11, 1985. During Al’s career he was able to accumulate over 3 Million Safe Miles! To be exact, 3,942,575 Safe Miles, which ranked 5th highest in all of DCS at the time of his last reporting! For many years Al shared the roadways with good friends Richard “Dickey” Love and Bob Pratt. The three of them are all from West Virginia and over the years they earned the nick name as the “West Virginia Mafia”. Between the three of them they have over 85 years of combined experience and well over 10,000,000 Combined Safe Miles with J.B. Hunt!

To celebrate his retirement Al was accompanied by members of the management team as well as Bill Liddle, a good friend of Al’s who retired from J.B. Hunt in 2017 with over 1 Million Safe Miles. Al plans to spend more time with family, concentrate on his health, and drive his Dodge Challenger. Al loves to lighten the mood by cracking jokes. As most have gotten to know him, know that he gets the most laughter out of his jokes than anyone else. Al has accomplished so much and will be missed dearly. We wish him the best in this next chapter of his life. His experience, wisdom, and sense of humor have made a lasting impression on so many people and he will always be part of the J.B. Hunt Family!

Thank You Al!

Driver Appreciation at Toyota

With this week being Driver Appreciation Week, we will be highlighting some of the events around the region.  Today was spent at our Toyota Account in Louisville, KY.  The day started with the account providing breakfast for the entire fleet to get their day and week started. As the morning continued an appreciation banner from the customer was put on display in the break room where the entire fleet would be able to view the banner as they enter and exit the facility. The banner was personalized with words of encouragement, praise, and appreciation from various levels of management from Toyota's Headquarters in Plano, TX. The account also handed out gift bags stuffed with Thank You Cards, new Hats, and new Shirts.  Great work Team Toyota!

Central Region Driver of the Month for August - Glen Gundle

Congratulations to Glen Gundle for being selected as Driver of the Month for the Central Region for August!  Glen is a Regional Driver based out of Flowery Branch GA on the Cargill Account.  Glen has been with JB Hunt for just over two years, but prior to that had worked for UPS for almost 20.  Glen poses some impressive stats, including 0 collisions, 0 CSA points, 0 rair points, 7.94 MPG, and 100% on-time service.  Glen's overall attitude and service to our customers in a safe and professional manner was the main factor in his selection this month.  Congrats Glen!

Below is the write-up from management:

“ Drive Like A Champion”, Drive Like A winner, Drive with Pride, Drive with Respect, Drive with passion, drive like it’s your company, drive with admiration , I could go on and on . I would like to introduce the Driver that processes all of these and more, Glen Gundle. Glen will tell you that “it’s nothing really”. Glen in-spires all around him from JB Hunt drivers and management to all of Car-gill Flowery Branch employees and management to other Mills in the region. It has been a honor to have Glen as my Driver . He is my go to guy.

You will never hear the words , “I can’t”, “No”, “It can’t be done”, “I would but I can’t”, “that’s impossible”. What you will hear from Glen is: “anytime” I can do that” I have an idea” This way might be better”, “No problem”, Whatever you need or want to make it work”, “let me do that” , these are just a few of the inspiring selflessness attitude gestures that Glen Has towards his job and JB Hunt . Glen was moved to the driver trainer position for these reasons. He is courteous, professional, safe, and continues to provide top notch customer service with a smile. He is truly dedicated to the job and goes above and beyond to forge relationships with the Cargill feed mill employees, fellow drivers, farmers, and JB Hunt management. He has assisted at several other accounts within the Cargill network as well as other DCS ac-counts and every manager that works with Glen sings his praises.

Glen is the other drivers go to guy. If they have a question about any customer in regards to the safe way to deliver, directions, along with contributing last minute critical support to the mill itself. Customers have called in to give a compliment about his customer service. To have a customer go out of their way to call and give praise means more than just a thank you. I know when I have Glen out on the road I’m at ease.

Glen is also cross trained as a Bulk delivery driver. When asked to help with the bulk side of the business Glen is right on it with no rebuttal. Glen would say “no problem I got this” . He is currently assisting with the bulk fleet while another driver is out on medical leave. Flowery Branch Mill employees and Management admire Glen’s work ethics and attitude, always giving compliments that Glen is enjoyable to have as part of their team.

In his spare time he travels as a professional corn hole player and continues to place at or near the top. His goal is to play in the national cornhole champion-ship and he gets closer to that goal each year.

Getting to Know - John Williamson

As part of our Central Region Quarterly RATLA program, Mike Maier from Jamestown Container spent the day with professional driver John Williamson.  John is a local driver on the Jamestown Container Account in Rochester NY and lives in Lyons.  John was hired by JB Hunt back in January and has done a solid job for us in servicing our customer in a safe and professional manner.  In his spare time, John enjoys all kinds of movies and relaxing at home with his family.

Below is the write-up from the management team:

John has been driver for Jamestown Container since January of this year. John has been great to work with and extremely flexible. He has been a great asset to our fleet and company as he has been also helping our PrimeSource account 3-5 days a week. As a manager with JBH for 4 years this was by far one of my favorite RTLA’s I have been a part of. John has a great attitude and even better sense of humor. John has been a driver for 20+ years and spent a majority of it over the road. He is extremely happy to be on a local account especially Jamestown that gives him a lot of options. He enjoys the mix up of going to all the different areas we deliver to and having the ability to help out other accounts like PrimeSource, Niagara Sheets, and IM. He loves that he can be home every night and weekend to spend time with his family and 5 grandkids that he missed out on when he was over the road. Most of the RTLA was spent discussing our common interest of movies and tv shows. We both had a few laughs over reciting lines from Al Bundy on Married with Children. John is a great driver on our fleet and extremely safe and couldn’t be happier he joined our fleet.
