CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HOME DEPOT VAN BUREN - 52 WEEKS ON TIME SERVICE!

The Home Depot - Van Buren recently accomplished what was once thought of to be impossible - 52 straight weeks of On Time Service!!!

Over the last year this team has delivered over 22,742 outbound stops across 22,319 loads while delivering on time over 99% of the time. The most impressive part of this is that they were able to do this with Home Depot's very stringent service requirements. Once an outbound load leaves the gate it must deliver on time or it will be counted against On Time Service even if the driver runs into weather, traffic, etc.

Congratulations to the team in Van Buren for such a big turn around over the last few years and for such a huge accomplishment! You can finally celebrate because you did it!!!

Getting to Know - Bill Pawlin - Professional Driver Southern States - Westfield, MA

Oliver Skelton (Operations Supervisor, Southern States-Westfield, MA)  recently rode with Bill Pawlin.  Here is what Oliver learned:

Bill came over to JB Hunt from UPS in our acquisition of the Southern States account in Westfield this past May.

He is a veteran driver and has been driving for 34 years.

Bill is happily married to his wife Donna, and has been so for 25 years. They have two children, a son and a daughter, and one grandson, who is 9 years old. Bill and his wife also have 6 tropical birds, that according to Bill, are very vocal. These birds live a luxurious lifestyle as Bill and his wife built them a special room with access to a cage in backyard so they can come and go as they please. Bill and his wife also enjoy birdwatching when they get the chance.

When Bill is not out scouting for birds, he is also an avid sports fan. Born and raised in New England, he stands by his New England teams: the Patriots, the Red Sox, and the Celtics and enjoys watching them and going to games when he not on the road or out in nature.

Home Depot - Van Buren 3rd Quarter Training

Home Depot Van Buren got off to a great start with Third Quarter Training.  As of 18:00 on July 14 they had 59.82% of their fleet completed.  78.57% complete with the Following Distance Exercise and 65.18% complete with the classroom portion.  The managers are having great conversations with the drivers as they are going through the exercise in the yard.

Here we have Fleet Manager Brandon Oreglia coming back toward the driver, Bob Kopin after walking out and placing the cones where the driver in the truck notified him by honking the horn where Bob thought one and two seconds of following distance would be when he was travelling at 60 miles per hour.

After he walked out and placed the cones where the driver honked the horn, Brandon got in the car and drove to the actual one and two second following distance marks.

Before and after the demonstration there was good conversation on previous headway events and what the driver had been doing to continually improve as a professional driver.

Promotion Announcement - Zach Oakes - Account Manager Home Depot - Monroe

Please join us in congratulating Zach Oakes for his promotion to Account Manager for The Home Depot account in Monroe, OH.

Zach joined us not quite year ago in August as an OS and quickly took on the challenge of Logistics Coordinator when the position was vacated in October.

In that role, Zach made an immediate impact with the customer increasing Asset Utilization by nearly 10 trucks/week, increasing Inbound Acceptance from 83% to 98+%, and setting the table for the operation to achieve 99.0% service since October 2015. JB Hunt has certainly benefited during this time as well with nearly 16% less annualized Turnover driven by a Driver Dedicated approach to smoothing out miles over all drivers and going to great lengths to make exceptions when possible for special requests.

Zach also spearheaded revenue gains of $370k from surrounding accounts by providing much needed and valuable support to the Central Region. It was all during this time that he was able to prove to all that he was very deserving of the Rookie of the Year Award given to him at Kick Off earlier this year.

 A well deserved promotion indeed!

Central Region June Driver of the Month - Adrian Moncrief

Congratulations to Adrian Moncrief for being chosen as the Central Region Driver of the Month for June.  Adrian has been with JB Hunt for 8 years and has served on a variety of accounts throughout the Columbus, OH area.  Adrian currently drives for the CHEP Pallet Account in Columbus.  Adrian's work ethic and flawless safety record were the two main reasons he was chosen from close to 1,100 drivers in the region.  Congratulations Adrian!

Below is the write-up from Account Manager John Schaar:

Adrian has always been a very dependable and flexible driver. He started his career at JB Hunt in DCS at the AGC Flat Glass account. Shortly afterwards he took on the challenge of home delivery at FMS. He has now been serving CHEP for almost two years. Adrian regularly asks for extra work and is always willing to come in on a scheduled day off or fill in for other drivers. He also takes initiative and keeps us posted on drop trailer pools at customers in order for us to manage orders with CHEP.
Here are some of Adrian's other highlights/accomplishments:
- Only five log points in RAIR for the first six months of this year
- No Critical Events in over 10 months
- 0 inspections with defects in over three years
- 0 preventable collisions in over seven years

Adrian's work ethic, safety record and pronominal customer service make him 2nd to none on the Chep Columbus DCS account. For all of the above reasons we are proud to name Adrian as our Driver of the Month!

Getting to Know - Mike Paluso -Professional Driver - Family Dollar Morehead

Nick Nocheck (Operations Supervisor - Family Dollar Morehead) rode with Mike Paluso.  The following is what he learned:

Mike has been with the Family Dollar account for almost 3 years and due to his reliability and consistency he has become a cornerstone of the account. He has accumulated 1.5 million safe miles, putting him in the 99 percentile of drivers with a rank of 311.

On an account that requires daily close quarter maneuvering and back road routing this makes his safety record that much more impressive.

On a personal note, Mike is a family man. He has four daughters and two grand children. In his free time he loves to fish and hunt with two of his daughters. Unfortunately the only boy is his grandson who is only two but from the way he describes him you would think they were attached at the hip.

Happy Anniversary Matt Stark!

Matt is a graduate of University of Central Arkansas.  Currently Matt is the Account Manager for Falcon.

Getting to Know - Robert Hines - Professional Driver Family Dollar Morehead

Rhonda Thacker (Account Manager for Family Dollar - Morehead) recently rode with Rob Hines.  Here is what she learned:

Rob was a proud member of the Unites States Army from Aug. 1984 – May 1988.

He has 2 grown children, Robert Jacob Hines and Christina Marie Hines. Rob is a proud man and has a great work ethic. His passion is his job and how well he can perform. Rob has talked jokingly about retiring but decided now wasn’t the time because he just had a major life event this year with the purchase of a new home!

Rob’s career with JB Hunt began in March of 2010. Since he has been with us he is one of our more tenured drivers and is one of our Senior Trainers on the account.  Early in his career with JB Hunt he had an accident, which was eventually overturned, but it made him a better driver. He is more cautious because of it. Instead of it thinking of it in a negative light he used it as a learning tool. Since then, he has done nothing but excel!

When you talk to Rob you will find that he loves to help people. When a trainee passes his training class, you know he has been thoroughly trained and well equipped to handle any issue that he might face on this account. He also continues to mentor these new drivers after they complete their training.  Rob is what you think of when you think about what you want in a professional driver. He has caused no service failures this year, he has 100% Compliance and his 12 week MPG is 6.54.  He has excellent customer service skills and works great with store employees. He leads by example when it comes to safety as well.

He is on the forefront of driver safety for this account. He is in constant communication with management over safety issues, such as the way trailers are loaded and has taken and sent hundreds of pictures of unsafe conditions. Not only does he report safety issues but he has also been very helpful with offering ideas to help find solutions to these issues.

Rob is one of those drivers that actually takes ownership in this account and wants everybody on this account to succeed and with that he holds every driver up to the standard that is required for us to be highly successful.
