Zach Evans and Brian Tabor do their best to put up the tree, good thing Evans is an Engineer

This week, the DCS Central Region office in Dublin, OH was busy at work getting in the Christmas Spirit.  This included an attempt at putting up a Christmas Tree, as well as stuffing nearly 1,100 envelopes for cards to go out to all of our professional drivers.  Thanks to all that supported these critical tasks!

Happy Anniversary Sam Djung!

Happy Anniversary to Sam Djung on celebrating 13 years with JBH! Sam started in the Northeast Region after graduating from the Ohio State University but was able to find his way back ‘home’ to the Central Region. During Sam’s time in the Central Region he has been a jack of all trades and a key part to many accounts along the way. For the last 3 years Sam has been the TGM at The Home Depot in Van Buren and the account has thrived under his leadership. The account is a model in safety, service, and customer satisfaction all while seeing several managers promote out to other roles within the Central Region. Thank you Sam for all that you do for J.B. Hunt and congratulations on 13 years!

These pictures came in last week from one our employees down in KY that is an avid University of Michigan fan.  Though I hate to give UM any sort of publicity or credit, this was pretty funny and worth posting.  Congrats Damon Howard, well done!

The Cup Comes Out of Hibernation

On Saturday January 6, in Central Region OM teams will battle it out in the afternoon session for the right to take home the Central Region Cup!  Last year, Team Warchol took home the prize for winning the kickoff challenge.  This win gave bragging rights to the team for the entire year!  During this years' afternoon session, there will be a team challenge and three other speakers where teams can earn points towards the cup!

This past week, the cup made its appearance at our new 250,000 sq ft indoor storage facility in Louisville, KY.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone that first week in January in Columbus!

Central Region Driver of the Month for November - Dan Robinson

Congratulations to Dan Robinson for being selected as Driver of the Month for November for the Central Region!  Dan has been a professional driver on the Intigral Account since we opened it years ago.  Prior to that Dan worked for several other accounts in the Cleveland area.  As a 19 plus year employee, Dan is one of the hardest working drivers we have and we appreciate his service!  Congratulations Dan!

Below is the write-up:

Dan Robinson is Intigral’s Driver of the Month! Throughout the month of November Intigral has needed quite a bit of help from local JB Hunt accounts with extra freight. I felt very comfortable making Dan the point of contact for early morning loads when outside drivers arrived. Dan is extremely knowledgeable on all the ins and outs regarding Intigral and can explain things in detail so other Drivers have a smooth and safe day. Dan has also been a go-to guy for weekend loads.
Intigral’s Customer Service Department received an email from one of their biggest customers, Vinyl Design Corp. in Holland, OH. They wanted to thank the transportation department for Dan’s hard work and dedication.

Dan is doing an excellent job of consolidating and getting our empty carts out. He has been working hard over the last several months to help us eliminate extra carts and keep us lean. This helps VDC tremendously because we have more space and we are becoming more organized. I know it helps Intigral as well. We look forward to keep getting leaner with Dan’s help. I just thought I’d give you some good news on this Monday. Please let the transportation department know that we really appreciate it as well.”

Mike McGuire Retirement Celebration!

Southern States Account Manager, Mike McGuire, retired today after serving over 40 years with Southern States and JB Hunt.  Mike was hired as a warehouse worker by Southern States in 1977.  One day, a bulk driver did not show up for work and the plant manager asked him to take a load to Danville, KY.  Mike had never driven a truck on the road at time—he had only driven them around the mill parking lot to move ingredients.  After successfully delivering the load to Danville, KY, he came back to the mill to discover that he was scheduled to take a load the next day.  The rest, they say is history.
After being a driver/dispatcher for the next 30 years, he came over to JB Hunt in 2009 as a bulk driver.  He hauled bulk feed for another 3 years until he became an Operations Supervisor at Family Dollar Morehead in 2012.  In 2014, he returned to Winchester as an Operations Supervisor and eventual Account Manager.

We held a celebration for Mike at the mill today.  Several of his former co-workers-- including the former plant manager that hired him-- were in attendance.  After the meal, he was presented with 3 plaques: one from Southern States, one from the JB Hunt management team, and one from his current drivers.

Thank you, Mike, for all your years of service! Enjoy retirement and stop by and see us sometime!

Getting to Know Caleb Jenson

This past week, Operations Supervisor Ashley Haney was fortunate to catch a ride with one of the new drivers on the Family Dollar Ashley Account, Caleb Jenson.  Caleb has only been on the fleet a short time, but has been very impressive in regards to his safety and professionalism.  It was a great day getting to learn more about our driver!  Below is the write-up from Ashley:

I got the wonderful opportunity to spend time with Caleb today. While we were out we got to sit down and enjoy lunch together. Caleb is one of our newest and youngest Drivers on the account, that hasn’t stopped him from showing how professional he is. Caleb is on top of his communication and trip planning. He always has a smile on his face and delightful attitude when he calls or comes into the office. He adds such positivity to the team. I’m looking forward to getting to know him even more and building that relationship.

When Caleb is not in his truck he is still staying busy. He enjoys reading, playing games and hanging out with friends.

Thank you, Caleb, for joining our Team!

We are happy to announce Jessica Watts as our new Operations Administrative Assistant on the Masterbrand Cabinets account.  Before joining JB Hunt Jessica worked as an emergency dispatcher for a local sheriff’s department, but decided she needed a change and felt the transportation industry would offer her exciting new challenges. Jessica spends most of her free time outside of work with her son, doing things outdoors, or reading a good book. Central Region Driver of the Month October - Patrick Voelz

Congratulations to Patrick Voelz for being selected Driver of the Month for the Central Region for October!  Patrick is one of our regional drivers on the Ohio Valley Aluminum Account in Shelbyville, KY.  Patrick has been with JB Hunt for 5 years, after being hired back in 2013 and has served the entire time in DCS!  Great work Patrick!

Below is the write-up from the Ohio Valley Team:

In our somewhat chaotic industry it often seems like everyone is doing their best to spread their stressed cloud of overwrought discontent to everyone they meet. After dealing with this Patrick’s cheery “Right on bro!” in his slow Tennessee drawl is a blast of fresh Appalachian air. With a confident can-do attitude Patrick rises to any challenge put to him with an easy grin and a driven work ethic.
Patrick’s cheerful demeanor, quick smile, and helpful attitude endear him to our customers. He has an excellent relationship with OVACO, often spending a few extra minutes to greet office personnel who normally don’t get to interact with the drivers overmuch. When he delivers to a customer Patrick builds relationships. He calls ahead to arrange deliveries and does a little extra for the customers when needed. This directly lead to a far greater flexibility in delivery times. Certain customers are okay with him and only him delivering on a later shift. He has built trust and it has operationally benefitted everyone involved.

October was a hectic month at OVACO. There were several times when Patrick’s relationship with the customers was a key factor in on-time delivery. Their trust in him and his advanced communication allowed him to recover late loads and get them delivered when most drivers would have had to wait until the morning. Patrick works hard and keeps his left door shut, but he is never in too big a hurry. Despite having the 2nd most miles driven over the past year Patrick has had ZERO collisions, ZERO log letters, and ZERO critical events!

“Patrick is the most energetic guy on the account. He always jumps in and does what needs to be done for both OVACO and JB Hunt. His amenable attitude is a positive influence in the workplace.”
-Derrek Richardson, OVACO Traffic Office
